Ben and Julie Sawyer, members of Perimeter Church, represent a shift in purpose among many churches today. They are an example of what happens when a church and a family go "missional."
When they heard of an opening at an apartment complex in the inner city of Atlanta, the Sawyers packed up, left their suburban home, and squeezed their family into a four-room apartment to live among and minister to immigrant families.
Now their downstairs becomes a kids' club a couple of afternoons a week helping children who are struggling with math. "We felt it was important to move into the community itself because it lends credibility to what we're doing here."
