At Home Heroes

The stress of military deployment takes a toll not only on warriors but also their stateside loved ones.

Living Word Christian Center hosted a special event for hundreds of family members of currently deployed and recently returned veterans.

At the Military Family Fair we pampered our guests with a luncheon and spa treatments. Attendees were given opportunities for pedicures, manicures, facials, and massages. Our children’s ministry provided infant care plus fun activities for the children. Seminars were presented on various topics such as home décor, scrap booking and physical fitness. Everyone was awarded door prizes that were donated by local merchants.

All the spa technicians were church attenders who wanted to do their part to serve the needs of our family members. None of our 200 guests had previously visited our church so all our volunteers had an excellent opportunity to show God’s love.

President Obama recently announced scheduled withdrawals of our Iraq deployed troops. This means that many service members will be returning home. Churches still have time to show how much we as Americans appreciate the sacrifice that our soldiers and families have made by reaching out to our ‘at home heroes’.
